Nintendo’s next addition to the console market, the Wii U, has caused a bit of a stir among industry observers. The device, which will feature high definition graphics, will include a handheld, motioned-sensored remote that has a screen, rather like a tablet PC.
It seems that in 2010 Sony also filed a patent with the US Patent and Trademark Office for a “Position-Dependant Gaming, 3-D Controller, and Handheld as a Remote” (Patent application number 20120014558). The patent for the tablet-style console pre-dates Nintendo’s E3 2011 Wii U announcement. So what does this mean for the PS4? Could Sony’s next generation console follow the handheld model too? As yet Sony has been very tight lipped about the next offering, preferring to champion the great untapped potential of the PS3. This quarter will also see the European and American release of Sony’s new handheld console the PS Vita, which offers gamers the chance to sync their PlayStation Network accounts and some games across the handheld and the
home console the PS3. The combination of both Sony’s consoles do seem to offer consumers the same benefits as the Wii U. So what is with the patent?
Books for girls and toys for boys
There are a lot of differences between e-readers and tablets. The main one is certainly their purposes. While an e-reader is a dedicated reading device that does not much else than displaying text, a tablet is a multifunctional tool that can be used for a lot of different tasks. Now, the market research company Nielsen stated that e-readers are more popular among woman whereas tablets are more popular among man. Let’s have a look why this might be the case.
Android Updates
What is really new about Android 4 is that it is a unified operating system. While Gingerbread worked on phones and Honeycomb on Tablets, Ice Cream Sandwich will work on both. The user interface will adapt to the screen of the given device. This makes it much more easier for app developers to maintain there apps. The do not have to write different versions for phones and tablets but can just develop one Android app.
